Below is a sample reading plan that takes you through the different types of writing in the Bible little by little.  It's the ESV Study Bible plan and has you reading short passages in four places each day: 
     1) Psalms and wisdom literature
     2) Pentateuch and Israel’s history
     3) Chronicles and prophets
     4) Gospels and epistles.
